COLORED COLLECTIVEZ

This underground documentary features rare footage of the mostly African-American and Puerto Rican South Bronx gangs from the 1970's, and updates the footage by visiting the gang members in early 1990's New York. FLYIN' CUT SLEEVES, completed in 1993, portrays street gang presidents in the Bronx. The project grew out of the experiences of Rita Fecher, the film's co-producer, who taught in a South Bronx school in the late 1960's and early 1970's. Co directed by Henry Chalfant (Style Wars), this is a look behind the colors and names into a world that most of us wouldn't understand. There is nothing predictable about the documentary, and it gives real names and life-stories of the actual gang leaders. It is essential viewing for those interested in the early years of Hip Hop, and complements and enhances the film "80 Blocks from Tiffany's" and the books "Yes Yes Y'All" and "Can't Stop Won't Stop".

Note from creator of  DUSTY BUT DIGITAL:
Due to the increased amount of work with music and other sites you've probably noticed that I haven't been updating this as frequent as I used to. I will post exclusive findings and music still from time to time and continue to maintain it to the best of my ability. I know a lot of you count on me to filter out the weak music and give you DBD approved material for your radio shows etc. You are the reason I still do it. Some weeks will be better than others. I hope ya'll understand. If you don't, fuck you.
