The annual mixtape, which usually features a nice mix of my favorite tracks of the year and some unheard exclusives. This isn't one of those mixtapes that you find on Datpiff, or DJBooth amongst the flood of wackness and watered down junk. This is a REAL mixtape, you know, like the ones no one makes anymore. Yeah, well I still do what I've been doing for years. I make these not only for myself and my fans and true followers, but also to pay homage to the great music that has or hasn't dropped. The delay on this was inevitable due to edits and things that were beyond my control. If you have been following the series, you know ATF usually drops on Thanksgiving. Special thanks to De La Soul for comin thru and hooking it up for me. Much more to come in 2013. Stay tuned and don't get caught slippin.

Yet another rare video I came across in my recent travels. Stillwell Q kills this shit, shouts to the whole ASF crew. Talks of a reunion album in the works are fluttering. I also know for a fact that there is a slew of unreleased OG Arsonist's tracks from when the recorded "As The World Burns". This was one of the the things we spoke about when I kicked it with Q a few months back. Props to RSC as well.

This week I realized that I haven't done one of these in a while. Basically what I do with every Boondox Breaks release is take a little from everywhere. Old beats, new beats, forgotten beats, obscure records, etc. Blend them all together with fresh hooks and drop them in 16 track increments over the years. Don't ask why they are always 16, they just are. I've always had love for Memorial Day weekend and what better way to spend your Saturday night. It's been exactly one month from the time we dropped the Sinderblock EP. Sev and myself can't thank everyone enough for showing support and the great feedback on the record. Now I don't usually do remixes unless it is industry stuff or immediate fam, but you know how the saying goes... "I does ish right the first time, no need for a remix..." thx to Smog for that wonderful concept. In true fun I thought it would be good to do a remix and include the instrumental since you all have been so great to us. I always used to get amped when people gave out the instrumental to a remix. This has been done a while ago and has been sitting since the album was finished. I didn't want to overwhelm people with too much at once and it would also give heads a great reason to revisit the song even though I know you all have the album on repeat.

The website Refined Hype brings you this dope 10 track album. Great production on here and yes, someone else used the "I need the dollar" sample and just shortened it...as if we wouldn't notice. My favorite track on here is "her bourne identity".. it pretty much sold me on checking the whole record.

The video dropped a few days ago, but is too blogworthy not to post it. The first single off Roc Marci's Marcberg (Reloaded) that came out about 5 months ago. The album is set to be released on Decon this month and will feature production from Alchemist and Roc Marc. Another new project that focuses on Marci's production; Marci Beacoup will feature Evidence, Action Bronson, and Guilty Simpson and is set for release later in the year. There is speculation that Marci is part of a new group called M.A.R.S. based on the video and song produced by Large Pro feat. Action, Cormega, and Saigon. Who knows what the real deal with that is, but when I find out I'll keep you in the loop.

I love hearing new verses, but not when it's over beats from over a year ago that have already been released.

One year ago today The BDC unleashed a ton of unreleased heat over the airwaves of WRPI fm. A jazz side project that merges old school drums, loops and samples with live instrumentation. Totally meant to be on the spot and a one take thing. This project reminds me of when jazz was back at the clubs in NYC, based on spontaneity and style, but only times have changed. We are executing other ways of getting out there to the public. It's only right to show and prove in every genre you capable of creating. That's why I thought that everyone should own this. It's a great listen and a nice blend Funk, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Electronic. Kid friendly. Big Ghostfase would give this like a 5 out of 5 Zeus Slaps b.

Anything But Orderly

After just coming off working on the UNT Beatbox Tens I remembered how much I loved the Fat Boys when I was young. Their music was fun, non violent, and was unlike anything I had ever heard at the age of 7. I then had my mother take me out to Strawberries to buy the record.
Big shouts to MA Dukes for having a nice record player... and for showing me how to use it.


After some months passed "rap" began to gain popularity among kids at the B-ball courts. Boomboxes and high tops. Pins and hats were also a necessity. These were some of the old hard to find relics.



Cazal Glasses became popular with the B-Boy movement and Skateboarding was being introduced on TV. They made plenty of money off merchandising and licensing too. Check the OG Bones stickers on the bottom of the board. To me these things I can remember them like they were yesterday, but time really takes off after your out of school. I guess that's why you see so many old people at community colleges. hard to believe over 25 years ago.
Back then people were saying it was going to be a trend.



They even starred in a movie. Straight classic... pure stupidness.



These guys even used to chill with Freddy.

They were a huge influence when I created The E. P. The samples they used for their song were well known radio songs and helped bridge the gap between young and old listeners. My parents never minded me playing this loud. It was the N.W.A. I had to buy 4 copies of because my mother would break them and throw them out.

Up_North_Trips-The_10's_Collection-2011-UNT

Recently I worked on a collaboration with my good friend Ev from college and his boy Stan from downstate. The idea was to make a series of mixes specific to one idea and include tracks based on that. We dropped one every day for about 15 days starting last month on the 10th. It is called The 10's. It was so popular it received a ton of reblogs via Tumblr and various other websites. We even received a picture of the man himself, Prodigy checkin' up on our progress and making sure his infamous lyric, being used as a handle was justified. After talks a few days back via email with the UNT fam, we've decided to continue The 10's and keep more of those lunch break mixes filling up you Ipods. We haven't worked out exactly when we will be dropping them, but I will keep you filled in. A ton of copycats are doing lists that are similar...10 this 10 that, best this, best that, etc., but remember where it all started... Your Memory's Museum, Up North Trips.

Sick_Hick_Cookbook_Vol._22 (Holiday Dranks) Nov. 2011

Apple Drank

A cocktail that's the perfect complement to your dessert or left over Halloween candy.

Wild Turkey American Honey, neat
Brown sugar or cinnamon and sugar
Apple slice

Coffee Drank


2 oz. Baileys with a Hint of Coffee
1 oz. pear-flavored liqueur

Layer pear-flavored liqueur first. Then top with Baileys with a Hint of coffee. Garnish with nutmeg and a grind of seasoned pepper, and sip dat shit.


Basil Drank



4 parts Russian Standard Vodka
3 parts fresh lime juice
3 fresh basil sprigs
2 tsp. sugar

Grape Drank


1 1/2 oz. Belvedere or Ciroc
1 oz. lemon juice
1 oz. simple syrup
3 oz. white cranberry juice
6 oz. Veuve Clicquot
20 red and white grapes, frozen


Blue Drank



2 oz. HPNOTIQ
1 oz. limoncello
1 oz. Champagne
Splash of lime juice


Sick_Hick_Cookbook_Vol. 27 (Vinyl's_Cola_Pork) Nov 2011

Ingredients.

1 - $10-12 piece of Pork Shoulder
1- can of Reg Coca Cola (no diet or low carb)
5- cloves garlic minced
1 1/2 cup light brown sugar
2 tblsp black pepper
3 tblsp salt
1 tblsp garlic powder
2 tblsp parsley
1 tsp crushed red pepper
1-tbsp maple syrup
1/2 small bottle your favorite BBQ Sauce. I use Sweet Baby Rays Honey BBQ.

Preheat Oven to 300

Wash hands.

Make a Dry Rub
In a med size mixing bowl, mix brown sugar, pepper, crushed red pepper, garlic powder, salt, and parsley to make the rub.

Make Garlic Mayo
1 - cup mayo mixed with garlic, parsley, pinch of salt

Mix BBQ sauce, 1/2 the minced garlic and maple syrup together in a bowl.

- Next, grease or rub olive oil on a med size turkey pan and pour the can of cola into it.
- Place the pork fat side down in the pan, if there is any.
- Rub the top and sides of the pork with the dry rub.
- Drizzle the maple bbq sauce over the top of the pork.
- Cover pan with aluminum foil
- Place in oven.

Wash hands.

For 1st hour and 1/2 cook at 300, Then set oven to 275 and cook 5-6 hours.
for a crispy top take foil off for the last half hour.
The pork should break easily using a fork, mix in more bbq sauce if you like.
Serve on Toasted bread topped with garlic mayo or cole slaw.

Recently I've been working on remastering and working toward re-releasing my old tapes, Winter '94, WACE, Albany's Finest, Old 2 The New, etc. so be on the look for those. Classics that some people lost, got stolen from them, or just plain played them till the tape snapped. There are actually a few tapes of mine that I don't even have anymore. If you have any of these I will gladly pay you $20 for your original copy, or make you a remastered version on CD, and give you back the original if you let me borrow it for a week or so. This is just meant to put the bug in your ear and get you to dig through some of your old cassettes. I know I sold a ton of copies (over 100 give or take) of these so if you don't have it, no worries, someone will...hell, I may even have these recorded over an old Dokken tape somewhere. I'll have to check .

-this was the first mixtape ever recorded as the Death by Dawn team.

-a tape of remixes we did with hip-hop and rnb acapellas in '94 which features all original beats we made in 2 days on the EPS16+. At this time we were still renting it for $60 on a weekly basis.
Death By Dawn (vinyl, non-stop and katz) - Back 2 School
-a tape we knocked out after hitting the city in summer '95.
CMD Underground Tape (vinyl, joat, mangla, katz, shyste)...and a few other local emcees.
-recorded in '96, there were two versions of this tape that were released. The earlier more rare version had featured a rare shyste song that was produced by katz, shyste, and myself. The later released version had a posse cut featuring all of the CMD Underground emcees and was in place of the shyste joint. Personally, I preferred the Shyste version, over the posse cut, but it went out as a collective, not a X-perts or DBD project. I actually have the Shyste song and a few others from that time period, but that is for another release. real rare shit.
