This underground documentary features rare footage of the mostly African-American and Puerto Rican South Bronx gangs from the 1970's, and updates the footage by visiting the gang members in early 1990's New York. FLYIN' CUT SLEEVES, completed in 1993, portrays street gang presidents in the Bronx. The project grew out of the experiences of Rita Fecher, the film's co-producer, who taught in a South Bronx school in the late 1960's and early 1970's. Co directed by Henry Chalfant (Style Wars), this is a look behind the colors and names into a world that most of us wouldn't understand. There is nothing predictable about the documentary, and it gives real names and life-stories of the actual gang leaders. It is essential viewing for those interested in the early years of Hip Hop, and complements and enhances the film "80 Blocks from Tiffany's" and the books "Yes Yes Y'All" and "Can't Stop Won't Stop".

THE STORY
DAVID is the last romantic guy in New York who collects 90's memorabilia. He is devastated when his fiancé who is sleeping with every guy in the city dumps him to pursue a career as a TV dance show contestant. Fed up he starts "phone fishing"; leaving cell phones in bars near hot women and then calling the phone pretending it is lost and sets off dating adventures. David’s looking for love but finds ladies with vicious pit bulls, a dominatrix into aerial acrobatics, a sexy drug dealing gangster, cross dressing thugs and a woman in a Catwoman suit. He is infatuated with his gorgeous coworker and barely avoids getting shot by her jealous fiancé.
When his ex returns to him, David must decide if he wants to continue the ladies man act or accept that she may be the only person who has the love he’s been longing for.

The latest flick from Meyhem. During SXSW, the hulking Queens rapper assembled a big pile of friends and recorded the bulk of his excellent Respect The Fly Shit mixtape. The hazy-but-intense “Fingerless Driving Gloves” is one of that tape’s few songs that doesn’t feature a small battalion of guest-rappers. And in its brand-new video, Lauren spends time glowering on New York restaurants and eating expensive-looking lunches alone at sidewalk cafes, which seem to connotate a lonely existence. Harry_Fraud-In_The_Lab-VIDEO-2012-NOISEY
Fraud gives us all some more insight into how he makes his beats, who he likes to work with, and how it all started for him. After recreating the classic Vast Aire sound, and dabbling with other projects, he caught a big break when Flex asked French for an anthem for Summer Jam. As they say, the rest is history. I sure hope that is just a wig he wears for interviews.

It reminds me of the early Jux days when they were pushing Lif's I Phantom heavy to college airwaves. If you are a good hunter you should go grab the mix I did for Def Jux back in 2002 called "Definitive Sampler Platter". Good luck with that tho.

Curren$y tag teams this EP with upcoming producer Harry Fraud. Mr. Fraud always comes correct and some would say he has the most recognizable drop since DJ Clue. He continues to impress me even though I'm not feeling most newer things he is releasing. I'm not so much into his trap style as much as his rap style. After smashing the entire Vast Aire album, being the supplier of Coke Boys, and then dropping Rugby Thompson with DZA, he is definitely proving his versatility. With an album in the stash soon to drop with Action Bronson, he is working with all the right people and it seems like we will be hearing "La Musicia De Harry Fraud" for some time now.

Oddisee flips up his labelmate's record on some other shit. When I recently hung out with Q-Unique, we happened to stumble upon how much of a great producer Oddisee is in our convo. I was excited that someone with the history like Q (who is an original member of Rock Steady Crew, would be giving respect to an up and coming producer/artist. It says a lot about who he is as a person. Mello Music Group stays keeping their name in the press by dropping little gems like this all the time.

Math_Hoffa-All_Competition_Must_Die_2-2012-UC
For the past few years I've seen Math Hoffa's videos and name popping up all over the place. Some of you know him for taking out suckas in battles held all over the country and in NYC. I recently caught up with Math at the Immortal Technique show that just happened a few weeks back. He was gracious enough to take the compliments and criticisms everyone felt like they needed to tell him, and also give me a few cds and a drop. A real humble guy that was on his grind hard like the rest of us. For some time now he has been rolling with the Stronghold camp and earning stripes among people like Pumpkinhead (now known as just PH) and Poison Pen. I peeped this CD and was amazed at how comical and non-battle like his style was for this release. Give this guy a shot and you will not be let down.
