One reason was because everyone and their mother did a year end list/release, another was that there was too many releases to keep track of. Eventually I will drop something similar to Wonderful Wino Radio with unreleased tracks, beats, and remixes. I'm not sweating it now because I have a few other projects in the works. This track will most likely be released on GCE Vol. 2 which will be coming shortly.

As you already know or may have heard I've linked with one of the building blocks of 518 hip hop for a new EP. Sev on verses and yours truly on the cuts and production. Sev and myself go back to the early days of Cap City underground hip hop when he was with a group called Master Plan. PJ Katz was working with him on a few things and he introduced the two of us. We never really linked on anything, and crossed paths numerous times but continued to remain friends. Since then he's continued to stay on his grind releasing a string of great albums including, Stu Dent, Slow Burn, Back 2 Dust, Shotgun, and Sondial, just to name a few. I flipped a few remixes and songs in the past for Sev and they came together well. It was only a matter of time before the inevitable happened. Hence, this record. We wanted to put together a solid piece of classic material without all the hoopla and immaturity. We have a wonderful scene here that draws people from all walks of life to check us out and I've had various conversations during the sessions with Sev on how to help expand and build it more. That's what we've all been doing from the beginning, isn't it? We have all grown up, lived here and learned lessons from different situations and people we've come across over the years. Time is limited for some of us with lives and families outside of this music, but we make the time and still all strive to enhance our overall product. I'm speaking for everyone that I know in the 518 that is on the same page. The title and cover to Sinderblock is meant to symbolize a bond and link between artist, producer and talent. You can't just learn talent you have to be born with it. Obviously, you can't build an entire building with just one block, but that is where it always starts. The artwork was done by Michael Manasseh. The album is complete and set to drop 3.6.12 There will be also 2 videos coming soon. One of those videos will be the first release off the project called "right and exact". It will be available via various websites and blogs. This album will also be released on Itunes.

Here's an early remix I did for Sev's PCM edition of Slow Burn. The lyrics were ahead of their time then , and still are relevant today. This is just a preview and to remind you about how important it is to make tracks that are timeless.

...and while we're on the topic of blue. Here are a few more "blue" releases I had in the stash. Remember folks...I put these out there for listening purposes. Not so all you producers can get lazy and start raping the entire release. Most of these have been taken by producers that actually matter, so try not to be that guy that isn't doing anything original. As Paula Deen would say, everything is good in moderation.

Pete_Rock-Diggin_On_Blue-1999-UC

This one is a classic but rather rare mixtape by Pete Rock that I've been revisiting a bit again lately. For some odd reason this fantastic mix was strictly limited to a Japan release where it was available on cassette and CD via EMI's Toshiba label in 1999. Now be warned that this is not your average hip-hop mixtape and is certainly not for everyone. The project is sort of Pete Rock's way of paying tribute to the jazz legends whose music he grew up on and would inspire him to become one of the best hip-hop producers the world has ever seen. As the title suggests the 16 tracks picked by Pete for this mix all comes from the Blue Note catalouge, one of the most succesful and famous jazz labels there ever was. These artists and songs have inspired hip-hop artists for decades, and many of them have been used in sample form to create new timeless classics by groups like A Tribe Called Quest, Gang Starr, D.I.T.C. and of course Pete Rock himself.

Between this and Madlib's "Shades Of Blue" (2003) these type of releases are one of the best ways for a hip-hop head to break into the incredible music known as jazz. The two genres shares alot of common ground and not at all exclusively through the sampling of old jazz records. I often say that the guys who rocked the jazz scene back in those days, would be the same guys doing hip-hop if they were born in this day and age. Matter of fact, I wouldn't be suprised if someone like Dilla actually was John Coltrane reincarnated. So even if you don't listen to jazz, at least take some time out to check out Pete Rock on the wheels of steel. Who knows, maybe you'll dig this shit alot more than you would expect?

Included in the actual CD package were a few rare pics from the '99 recording session and an interview with Pete Rock about his fascination with these artists and their music, the Blue Note catalouge and his motives behind putting this mix together. You can check out all that right here @ Discogs.

I really don't follow Rozay too much, but I guess this was the track everyone was buzzin about. I'm not sure why Common played the other parts and didn't just jack the beat and body the whole thing. To be honest, I'm so out of the loop with MMG that I have no idea why these 2 are even beefing in the first place. Really, who the fuck cares. This is a no contest situation. If I were Common, i wouldn't have even responded, but I knew someone was just waiting to get on Drake and that preschool flow of his.

This is the song inspired by the birth of Hov's daughter, Blue Ivy Carter. It is said to feature the baby, but the weird thing is... baby's don't start making noise like that until after a few days or even weeks sometimes. Maybe baby Blue pulled a C and C Music Factory flip. Ironic that the name is Blue considering that S. Carter dropped 3 albums called the blue print. Some dope lines in this jam and a nice dedication to his wife and 1st born. Nice job Jigga...and I know most of you know he will be trying again with that one. If Beyonce was my wife I wouldn't mind trying a few more times too. S. Jr. is the only one that could inherit the throan.

He will be around for a long time for sure.

One year ago today The BDC unleashed a ton of unreleased heat over the airwaves of WRPI fm. A jazz side project that merges old school drums, loops and samples with live instrumentation. Totally meant to be on the spot and a one take thing. This project reminds me of when jazz was back at the clubs in NYC, based on spontaneity and style, but only times have changed. We are executing other ways of getting out there to the public. It's only right to show and prove in every genre you capable of creating. That's why I thought that everyone should own this. It's a great listen and a nice blend Funk, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Electronic. Kid friendly. Big Ghostfase would give this like a 5 out of 5 Zeus Slaps b.

Anything But Orderly

After just coming off working on the UNT Beatbox Tens I remembered how much I loved the Fat Boys when I was young. Their music was fun, non violent, and was unlike anything I had ever heard at the age of 7. I then had my mother take me out to Strawberries to buy the record.
Big shouts to MA Dukes for having a nice record player... and for showing me how to use it.

After some months passed "rap" began to gain popularity among kids at the B-ball courts. Boomboxes and high tops. Pins and hats were also a necessity. These were some of the old hard to find relics.

Cazal Glasses became popular with the B-Boy movement and Skateboarding was being introduced on TV. They made plenty of money off merchandising and licensing too. Check the OG Bones stickers on the bottom of the board. To me these things I can remember them like they were yesterday, but time really takes off after your out of school. I guess that's why you see so many old people at community colleges. hard to believe over 25 years ago.
Back then people were saying it was going to be a trend.

They even starred in a movie. Straight classic... pure stupidness.

These guys even used to chill with Freddy.

..and The Fridge

They were a huge influence when I created The E. P. The samples they used for their song were well known radio songs and helped bridge the gap between young and old listeners. My parents never minded me playing this loud. It was the N.W.A. I had to buy 4 copies of because my mother would break them and throw them out.

Up_North_Trips-The_10's_Collection-2011-UNT

Recently I worked on a collaboration with my good friend Ev from college and his boy Stan from downstate. The idea was to make a series of mixes specific to one idea and include tracks based on that. We dropped one every day for about 15 days starting last month on the 10th. It is called The 10's. It was so popular it received a ton of reblogs via Tumblr and various other websites. We even received a picture of the man himself, Prodigy checkin' up on our progress and making sure his infamous lyric, being used as a handle was justified. After talks a few days back via email with the UNT fam, we've decided to continue The 10's and keep more of those lunch break mixes filling up you Ipods. We haven't worked out exactly when we will be dropping them, but I will keep you filled in. Apple Drank

A cocktail that's the perfect complement to your dessert or left over Halloween candy.

Wild Turkey American Honey, neat
Brown sugar or cinnamon and sugar
Apple slice

Coffee Drank

2 oz. Baileys with a Hint of Coffee
1 oz. pear-flavored liqueur

Layer pear-flavored liqueur first. Then top with Baileys with a Hint of coffee. Garnish with nutmeg and a grind of seasoned pepper, and sip dat shit.

Basil Drank

4 parts Russian Standard Vodka
3 parts fresh lime juice
3 fresh basil sprigs
2 tsp. sugar

Grape Drank

1 1/2 oz. Belvedere or Ciroc
1 oz. lemon juice
1 oz. simple syrup
3 oz. white cranberry juice
6 oz. Veuve Clicquot
20 red and white grapes, frozen

Blue Drank

2 oz. HPNOTIQ
1 oz. limoncello
1 oz. Champagne
Splash of lime juice

Sick_Hick_Cookbook_Vol. 27 (Vinyl's_Cola_Pork) Nov 2011

Ingredients.

1 - $10-12 piece of Pork Shoulder
1- can of Reg Coca Cola (no diet or low carb)
5- cloves garlic minced
1 1/2 cup light brown sugar
2 tblsp black pepper
3 tblsp salt
1 tblsp garlic powder
2 tblsp parsley
1 tsp crushed red pepper
1-tbsp maple syrup
1/2 small bottle your favorite BBQ Sauce. I use Sweet Baby Rays Honey BBQ.

Preheat Oven to 300

Wash hands.

Make a Dry Rub
In a med size mixing bowl, mix brown sugar, pepper, crushed red pepper, garlic powder, salt, and parsley to make the rub.

Make Garlic Mayo
1 - cup mayo mixed with garlic, parsley, pinch of salt

Mix BBQ sauce, 1/2 the minced garlic and maple syrup together in a bowl.

- Next, grease or rub olive oil on a med size turkey pan and pour the can of cola into it.
- Place the pork fat side down in the pan, if there is any.
- Rub the top and sides of the pork with the dry rub.
- Drizzle the maple bbq sauce over the top of the pork.
- Cover pan with aluminum foil
- Place in oven.

Wash hands.

For 1st hour and 1/2 cook at 300, Then set oven to 275 and cook 5-6 hours.
for a crispy top take foil off for the last half hour.
The pork should break easily using a fork, mix in more bbq sauce if you like.
Serve on Toasted bread topped with garlic mayo or cole slaw.

These are dope as shit. It's about time they started chopping up the earth tones. I remember in 1997 or 98 they made a dope pair of cigar colored ACG hiking sneakers. Wish I knew enough to stock one rock one back then. Would've been nice to fuck dudes heads all up breaking out a pair of those. They were never re-released again or retroed. There was also a nice pair of woodgrain dunks that were very limited and if you are lucky maybe you'll get the chance to bid on a REAL pair via Ebay.

Moet and Kase 2 (RIP) collaborated to make a bunch of T-shirts for a 2010 fundraiser at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Nearly 25 years since Style Wars first excited viewers, the film’s negative stock is beginning to decay and we are hoping to raise enough money to preserve it for future generations of artists and writers. Several shirts were left over and the BAM event info was added on the back. Kase 2 received a cut of the proceeds and he kept one of the ‘hoodies’.

Chopsy-Into_The_Cosmos-2011-Architeq

“INTO THE COSMOS” is ChopsyAnimations first foray into the world of music videos, a tie-in with music maker Architeq from Tirk Records.

Originally it was conceived as a short film by Chopsy (director Darren Robbie), with a simple premise: “what happens to all the old vinyl people used to play? From out of attics, rubbish bins & forgotten shelving, the records are summoned to an old warehouse by a mysterious ‘collector’.”

Using a combination of stop-frame, pixilation, live-action & time lapse animation, it was shot in a variety of locations around Bristol & was created by shooting entirely in camera whenever possible (at other times multiple passes were combined). By shooting each frame within a specific timescale for the external shots, we see vinyl records interacting with the ever changing natural light & weather (dry or wet, sunny or cloudy) – if you look closely you can even see puddles drying out in a couple of shots.

The short film was created on & off over a period of 7 months by a bunch of friends between paid work, a real labour of love (it had no budget to speak of). It was shot in late winter earlier this year with the spring & summer being used to do all the post (mainly rig removal). All the records you see were cut before shooting, with new centre labels stuck onto them to create the desired visual effect of them spinning & bouncing through the ground, they were then animated on location using weighted rigs.

Architeq added the music & sound effects after filming finished & the first edit was completed. Rigs were removed, different passes combined & shadows cleaned up in AfterEffects. Motion capture on location was achieved by using Dragon software on a laptop, which was in turn powered by a portable caravan battery. Cameras used were the Canon Eos 5 & 7.

The Vinylcologist comes out of nowhere with this tribute to Mayer Hawthorne (Stonesthrow) made strictly from his Strange Arrangment album. After hearing it again a few years later Vinyl decided to make a beat out of every song while paying tribute to the soul superstar. He wanted to make sure that this was done unlike any other tribute to Mayer. He used the full length LP (not the instrumental album) and added samples and cuts from other well known records that happened to be out already laying around his studio. Now that you are somewhat familiar, let me also add that the three met while attending college at Skidmore in Saratoga, NY. Maybe it was the corners of Broadway and Caroline St. that helped mold their style. Their producer is Tommy MAS who also produced Action Bronson's "Dr. Lecter". I spoke with MAS recently and he said they were taking a break to work on other things. He's a super talented lab tech that informed me his recording, mixing and mastering is kept extremely simple. I can appreciate what he is doing while hitting both sides of the spectrum. Some of the faster jams remind me of early dance music with a crisp flip on the drum and voice overs. As far as i know they are signed by Duckdown and continue to work on music. Machine already has released a mixtape (which I posted below) and has one on the way with fellow emcee Ginger Ale. Both Action and Facelift have also been working with Don Producci. He created the majority of songs on J-Love's Bon Appetite....Bitch mixtape. There are a few Team Facelift releases out there including Passion Cove, Their self titled mixtape, and Mixed Emotions. 6 Grams was pushed by Duckdown.

(I know you all really give a shit, almost). I've always preached to everyone that I was a DJ first, a Producer second, and lastly an Emcee, just for fun. A few years back when I started working on the Jack and Vinyl mixtape there was a void in Hip Hop for me. I felt like everyone was putting out decent material, but there really was no one writing anything that I could actually relate to. I wasn't living it up in the Hamptons, buying the latest Gucci threads, Doing sold out shows, or pushing a brand new Benzo like all the 'other' people out there. On an underground level, I wasn't working with the dope artistsi had access to, or even trying to link or pay for a verse from someone fresh. I always felt that it was a total waste of time, money and effort. So I decided to take things into my own hands and start taking writing seriously. After all, I've heard just about everything...from underground to commercial, new to old, and big guys to little guys....I surely can have an impact with some of the stupid thoughts cruzing around in my brain. Bottom line... writing is fun, but it does nothing for me for to try to be something I'm not. I asked myself the other day....if you had the opportunity to become one of the biggest rappers on the planet would you want to be that guy. Honestly, other than the money, I would never want to be that person. Main reason is because I'm not any good at it. The lines may be cool and shit and what I speak is real, (can't say that for most emcees) but I'm such a better DJ and Producer than I am an Emcee. Not to mention that I rarely perform or even try to go out to shows. Part of me feels that the best music always comes out of the studio. I like to show up to show support for my friends and to see them perform. Just don't ask me to perform. Call me what you want, (studio emcee, hermit, hypocrite) but be sure to call me honest. Let's face it...the reason that anyone (especially hip hop artists) out there creates a separate entity of themselves, is because they obviously weren't happy just being themselves. I'm cool with being myself, but becoming "the vinylcologist" give me my independence. It took me some time and I've pretty much created a brand that will settle for nothing less then excellent if my name is attached to it. In the past year alone I dropped more music then people do in a career. the crazy thing is, out of all the music I dropped, I liked the stuff that I wasn't rapping on the best. That's why this was an easy decision for me.

There are a few features I am currently buttoning up before its completely wrapped up. Then it's more blogging, djing, and producing. I also don't want to be the same as every other fuckin joe goin, "oh yeah, i'm a rapper" There's too many rappers, and not enough good ones. You assholes gave all the good ones a bad stereotype. Once people have horrible food at a place, you can't expect them to come back.

I'd rather put nothing out, than put out something that isn't timeless.
on a side note....
There is tons of great music coming out right now and the void of boredom with the music industry that I was trying to fill is flourishing right now. 2011 will be a historic year in hip hop.

Hopefully you’ve been beating the social networks hard and long enough to realize that your number of friends and followers doesn’t equate to success. Sure it’s a factor, but accumulating people on these networks don’t mean that they give a shit about your music. I have Facebook friends that have pushed their network numbers to the limit, then they release a single only to discover that those people couldn’t care less.

You’ve got to be interesting and entertaining. There are too many other things competing with you for the attention of those consumers and fans for you to be boring. I’m following a few artists on Twitter that happen to be some real assholes, but I find their messages amusing sometimes and a lot more entertaining than someone who regularly tells me what they’re having for breakfast. The technology that exist now gives you the opportunity to go beyond just creating good music. Your focus should be centered around the quality of your product and your influence.

Essentially, your influence is more durable than a hot single that will soon be forgotten. You should ask yourself these questions: What are you about? What’s the message in your music? Who are you the voice for? Do you wanna know why your favorite rapper is doing that collab with that wack ass rapper that you hate? It’s because that wack rapper has a potent influence on his fanbase. You may continue to scratch you head and not understand why, but that’s because his music doesn’t speak to you or your lifestyle.

Find your voice. Don’t try to please everyone because you’ll never succeed at it anyhow. Don’t be a carbon copy of someone else either. That’s for losers. The technology has made the world your stage and you only make this Earthly trip once. So you may as well go out of this biyatch making an impact and a difference.

So for the past couple weeks I've been filling in spinning on my friend, Dee Jay Tone's radio show and having a blast doing it. My brother and I had a conversation recently about how I don't get out to promote enough. This week I will be spinning for Lofi Lobo and Tone, which means that for the whole block this Friday from 10pm-2am, your boy will be blessing the tables. Lobo's show The Capital Coup showcases the vast array of music coming out of the 518. I will keep with the show's format, but while doing that I will be playing some extremely rare unreleased tracks from the early 518 days and current non released material, live blends, freestyles and remixes. Here's and old pic of Guru and myself. (circa 2002) He was just getting ready to release the Baldhead Slick album. We linked up for a lunch and chatted while I smoked a dutch after an invite only Tommy Boy party and panel at CMJ. I made sure to tell him how much his music influenced me over the years, and how grateful I was that he gave me some time to kick it with him. Truly a humble individual. It's hard to believe that a year has passed since his death. It just shows you all that time is precious. This shit had me fooled back in the day. You can totally see the strings. I'd definitely have to pull over and say something disheartening if I ever saw someone doing that now.

I really couldn't help myself on this one. I loved this movie as a kid and it shows you how hip-hop was attempting to go mainstream trying to focus on the dancing as oppose to the rapping aspect. The Chappelle joint is classic though, I wish his show would come back. Every once in a while he snaps jokes on people through twitter.
Turbo and Ozone are still out there as well. Ozone also known as shabba-doo did some choreography for Madonna and helped Jaime Kennedy put together dance sequences on one of his more recent movies. Turbo scored some small roles and movies like Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey , Naked Gun 33and1/3 (the final insult), and played as "urkelbot" on 4 episodes of Family Matters. As of 2011 they have yet to pop up on radar.

The title track "Sondial" features a rare sample that i won't give away, but was also flipped by our own Jack of All Trades for the Durt Murchants track "You Have No Idea", released on the Jack and Vinyl 80 Proof mixtape in 2008. It in no way takes away from these songs. Threat always flips it tight, and half of hip hop has been sampled more than twice. So fuckoff if you thought I was trying to downplay my wiggas. They just gave you a free album so show some support and go to a show, or buy some shit you cheap bar stards.

How funny is it that it really didn't take long for someone to jack one of my ideas and try to ride it to the bank. Check out this cornball group, Redlight King's rock version of my joint Under The Influence. I dropped this back in May of last year and one of two things is possible: 1. They could have been working on this for a while and just happened to put it out. or 2. Some record exect heard it and jacked the idea. Either way, you know where you heard it first, and if it was my idea, then I guess then that would be one more reinforcement that I am musically ahead of my time.

Don't get excited, I would never leak my man Yak's album without his permission. What I do have though is another dope track that found it's way out of hiding. I'm not sure if this is actually going to be released on his album, or if this is for something else. Personally, the titile track Gas Galaxy has been my favorite out of what has been leaking. Action Bronson is making hella noise all over NY with his new album 'Dr. Lecter'. If you aren't up on this Flushing Queens native, just thank me for giving you the heads up and something hype to rock all summer. Some say that it is the best album that have heard in years... including myself. Others have said "hip hop is back in NY". I'd put my money on this dude any day of the week. He's kinda sounds like a young Ghost with dope ass production behind him. He has been recently working with Statik Selektah and Mayhem Lauren of Thirstin' Howl III's Lo-Life clique.

People are probably wondering why I post so much Dirt Nasty music on my blog. Plain and simple answer...It's entertaining. It's not even close to as good as some of these other stuff I post on here, but it's also 1,000 times better than the shit on the radio today. Plus I'm a dirty muthafucka at heart. Simon Rex has been fondling the music business and the fashion world since his early days as a host on MTV's Remote Control. After teaming up with Stretch Armstrong to release 'The White Album', he continues to do shows and amaze crowds with how much coke he does during those shows. I have nothing against coke, cause I can say it's got me plenty of college ass back in the day. I just smoke, drink, and on occasion twist some hash in the vega. That's my cup of jack. This song isn't as dope as the last song I posted, but it's still worth playing...at least once. Check it.

Decon_and_Hip_Hop_DX-Never_Not_Fresh-(SXSW_Showcase_Sampler)-2011-UC

Here's another exclusive you will find at a few spots only, including Dusty but Digital. This is the CD sampler they were giving out at the Decon Records booth at SXSW music festival. It features all new music from artists on the Decon label, and some exclusives from up and coming artists. This disc was entirely mixed by DJ Babu of Dilated Peoples. ENJOY!

Chi-Ali Then

Chi first made his first appearance as Jeff on various B-Sides of singles from De La Soul's 3 Feet High and Rising. He reappeared as Chi-Ali two years later on Black Sheep's debut album A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing on "Pass the 40," a posse cut about drinking 40s, rocking women, and ripping the mic. Chi Ali at the time was a member of the Native Tongues and also had connections with the Legion family, along with Showbiz and AG.
This was one of the songs that made him a household name in the hip hop community. "Funky Lemonade" was my favorite joint off his album. I still remember killing doubles to that back when it dropped. Always a good song to chop up while drinking a 40oz of Crazy Horse.
He got pinched after being on the run for a few months and got sent to prison in 2001. He was charged with the murder of his girlfriends brother. He was even on America's Most Wanted and
Managed to stay at large for over a year.

Chi-Ali Now

After doing years in Sing Sing Correctional as prisoner #04A0267, he's apparently changed his mind about being a gangster. Grab his classic 1st album HERE.

Flippin' Footage

I only remembered a little of this when Flux and the FWORD fam were taping it. I was about 3 blunts in and 10 PBR's deep when this was filmed. We were out front cracking on people walking by, Heather Morrison (pregnant on the 9's), and all the cornballs driving by that had Dead Hardy steering wheel covers. That was a fun night and I can't thank these guys enough for the continued support. Much love fellas. Flux killed one of my beats in this video too. The last 3 Don Smog CDs sold at this show for $20 a piece.

His ex-wife Brooke has recently filed a court order of protection against the Wild Thing and took his 2 twin boys from his home where he reside with his two goddesses. This resulted in a series of ustream, tv, and media tirades that coined the term 'winning'. He also said something about tigers blood dripping from his fangs. Just yesterday the cops, with search warrant in hands showed up to Sheen's Sober Lodge to raid it. His ex-wife told police that he keeps a stash of weapons there and was obviously in fear for her life and the life of here two young boys. We can only hope this guy doesn't die too soon.
